The HARP experiment deployed fiber optics in the air by having them go over two rows of pulleys. The sets of pulleys were then stretched apart, resulting in the fibers spanning the space between the pulley’s on 25 cm spacing.
The balloon-lifted fiber optics was carried out in Denmark. Here a set of 10 parallel fibers span from ground to the height of the balloons on 2 m centers to observe the development of the boundary layer over a small stream.
